In this tutorial, we learn how to make our foliage fade out when the camera approaches. This is useful to prevent obscuring the player character in close-up foliage or for hiding enemies or game-play elements. We build a material function that returns a zero when the camera is close and a one when the camera moves further away - and then we use that as a multiplier for our opacity mask. We also use Unreal's DitherTemporalAA node to make it appear that we're using transparency to fade out the foliage - but without the added expense of actually using transparency.
