Captain Kens Maiden Flight
This is the Seagull Model Mehari.... This model was originally Captain Kens from our club but 2 weekends ago Kenny cartwheeled it ripping the RHS wing off and basically said he was done with it and gave it to me.... I repaired the side of the fuse and replaced the (bend) wing spar with a carbon fiber one and installed my spare DLE20...... while repairing the fuse I noticed that one of the control horns on the LHS wing was incorrectly installed so I drilled a new hole in the correct place..... 40hrs work later and she's ready to re-maiden but after going on line all the vids I saw showed this plane to be a handful which kinda lines up with Capt Kens experience so I set it up with the recommended rates ( low is sports flying and aerobatics is high rates) and took her to COMSOA.... the initial intent is to see how she lands as that seems to be the sticking point... and I was right.... she's a b1tch to land.... several attempts later I got it on the ground and lowered the expo rate from 40 back to my go2 setting of 30... the elevator is touchy to say the least and she's not a floater when it comes to landing... mind you she handles beautifully in the air..... its going to take some time to get the elevator dialed in but once that's done I think I will have a nice flying plane..
