Aligned closely with the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute at the University of Missouri, the Rural and Farm Finance Policy Analysis Center (RaFF) officially launched at MU in March 2022. In this Engaging 4 MO webinar, Dr. Sarah Low, the center’s director, describes the work RaFF is doing and highlights the center’s first research-based brief on agriculture’s contribution to GDP.

She highlighted the center's focus on regional analysis. Low also outlined the RaFF's work in three areas: 1) developing farm income projections for states and regions, 2) providing objective policy analysis to Congress and USDA and 3) producing research-based insights on topics related to farm and rural finance for the public.

Low emphasized how rural economies are diverse and how agriculture's contribution to the rural economy varies regionally across the U.S. Nationwide, agriculture accounted for 6.8% of the rural economy in 2020 — up from 5% in 2001.
