A 59 year old gentleman told me yesterday that he has been living in quiet desperation in his corporate hospitality job for the past 25 years. When I asked what he really wanted to do, he expressed that he always wanted to be a sports caster. What's so sad here, is that so many people are in the same situation, they're working in jobs that pacify them just enough to keep going, they're too exhausted to explore their passions, or they're just too afraid to start.
Some of the fear related to following our passions has to do with the strong feelings of shame we tend to feel by not conforming to societal norms, and some of the fears stem from being perceived as starting at the bottom for something new.
Key takeaway in this video: Life is too short to not follow the things that energize you. You don't have to quit your job at first, just start doing something on the side - just start exploring because as Howard Thurman once said, the world needs more people who have come alive.
