The Amazon Cliff?? - Amazon pay drops after 4 years??
Did you know that Amazon pay drops after 4 years? Many Amazon employees often refer to the event as "the cliff" - In my last video I talked about why I left Amazon at the 4 year mark and someone made a comment that I'd like to address - He said: "The cliff happens because you should be moving up, promo by then. If not you're not doing it right, aka not increasing your value, skills, and therefore they want you out."
The problem with this blanket statement is that it fails to recognize three main factors that are outside an employees control which include:
1) Constant reorgs where we lose our promo sponsorship and have to re-build
2) Reporting to a person that's the same level as us which necessitates waiting for them to get promoted before we get promoted.
3) Insane politics
