Entrevista a Cristina Bendek
On the occasion of the XI ISLA we had a series of interviews with writers from Ireland, Spain and Latin America. Cristina Bendek was one of them.
Cristina Bendek is a Caribbean author, born on the island of San Andrés (Colombia). In 2018, her first novel, Salt Crystals, Cristina won the Elisa Mújica National Novel Prize (Colombia). The novel has been translated into Portuguese (Moinhos,2021) and Danish (Aurora Boreal, 2020), and now it also appears in English translation for the first time with Charco Press. The book will also be launched in Spanish in North American and the UK. Some of her work has also been translated into German.
Cristina is a journalist as well but she spends her time researching Caribbean literature and writing fiction. She lives between in Berlin and San Andrés.

Con ocasión del XI ISLA mantuvimos una serie de entrevistas con escritores de Irlanda, España y América Latina. Cristina Bendek fue una de las invitadas.
Cristina Bendek es una escritora caribeña de la isla de San Andrés (Colombia). Su primera novela, Los cristales de la sal, fue galardonada en su país natal con el Premio de Novela Elisa Mújica, en el 2018 y ha sido traducida al portugués (Moinhos, 2021), al danés (Aurora Boreal, 2020) y ahora, por primera vez, aparece la traducción en inglés de la mano de la editorial Charco Press, que también lanzará la novela en español para los lectores de América del Norte y Reino Unido. Algunos de sus trabajos han sido también traducidos al alemán.
Cristina es periodista, pero pasa la mayor parte de su tiempo investigando sobre literatura caribeña y escribiendo ficción. Vive entre Berlín y San Andrés.
