Entrevista a Moya Cannon
On the occasion of the XI ISLA we had a series of interviews with writers from Ireland, Spain and Latin America. The next of this series is the Irish poet Moya Cannon.
Moya Cannon was born in Donegal and is a member of the Irish association of artists Aosdána. In 1990, Moya’s first book, Oar, (Salmon Press) won the Brendan Behan Award for the best first collection of poetry published in Ireland in the previous year. She has since published five further collections. In 2001 she received the O’Shaughnessy Award from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota. Her 2011 collection, Hands, was shortlisted for the Irish Times Poetry Prize and her Collected Poems was published by Carcanet Press in February, 2021. Migration, of people, of birds and of culture is a central theme in her work.

Moya Cannon es una poeta irlandesa nacida en Donegal. Miembro de la asociación irlandesa de artistas Aosdána, su ópera prima Oar, (1990, Salmon Press) ganó el premio Brendan Behan a la mejor primera colección de poesía publicada el año anterior en Irlanda. Desde entonces ha publicado cinco colecciones más.
En 2001 recibió el Premio O'Shaughnessy de la Universidad de St. Thomas, en St. Paul (Minnesota). Su colección de 2011, Hands, fue preseleccionada para el Premio de Poesía del Irish Times y su Collected Poems fue publicado por Carcanet Press en febrero de 2021.
La migración es el tema central de su trabajo: las migraciones de personas, de aves y de cultura.
