Unit rate word problem: which is a better buy? (7th grade math)
I show you two ways to find out which bag of nuts is the better buy. We can calculate either the price per pound (unit price) - and this is the usual approach - OR we can calculate the price per 1/4 pound.
Since this problem involves quantities of 3/4 lb and 1/2 lb, the latter approach works fine and avoids a division by a fraction.
