We bring back our countdown of the Top 10 moments for CHFP Weightlifting in 2018.
#10 is a nod to our entire competitive team of 44 athletes. For the second consecutive year, CHFP athletes and coaches participated in every AO Series event, the American Open Finals and every National Championship- Youth, Junior, University/U25, Masters and Seniors. In all, the team collected 5 GOLD, 12 SILVER and 14 BRONZE medals.
Next up at #9 is our Youth squad’s performance at the National Youth Championships. The team delivered outstanding performances collecting 7 medals and 7 competition PRs. Medal count: 3 SILVER 4 BRONZE
#8 salutes the collective team performance at the American Open Series II in Valley Forge, PA. As a team, our squad of 18 Youth, Senior and Masters athletes set 22 PRs and collected 17 medals- 5 GOLD, 8 SILVER, and 4 BRONZE medals.
#7 belongs to Onzy Elam II for his epic 6 for 6 performance at the National University/U25 Championships in Ogden, UT. Onzy combined a best snatch of 126kg with a lifetime best clean and jerk of 156kg to set a PR total of 282kg.
Landing at #6 is Youth athletes Morgan Bramble and Avery Owens earning medals at the National Junior Championships. Morgan was a perfect 6/6 with a competition best snatch of 58kg, a PR clean and jerk of 79kg and a PR total of 137kg. Her PR performance earned a BRONZE medal in the clean and jerk. After going 3/3 In the snatch with a best lift of 80kg, Avery lifted a competition PR clean and jerk of 101kg to take the BRONZE in that event and finish with a PR total of 181kg.
At #5 is Avery Owens’ dramatic 3rd attempt 104 kg PR clean and jerk at the American Open Series III to secure selection to Team USA that will compete at the 2019 IWF Youth Worlds.
The 4th spot belongs to Youth athlete Morgan Bramble. In 2018, Morgan competed in seven competitions adding 25kg to her total. Even more remarkable is that in those 7 meets, Morgan missed ONLY THREE attempts going 6/6 five times, 5/6 and 4/6.
At number 3 is the Top 5 finishes by Marissa Gaab [64 kg] and Justin Rittenhouse [96 kg] at the American Open Finals. Both athletes delivered strong 5for6 PR performances, each missing only their final clean and jerks which would have earned them positions on the podium.
#2 goes to Avery Owens who earned three BRONZE medals at the Pan American Youth Championships in Palmira, Colombia. Avery combined a best snatch of 78kg with a PR clean and jerk of 102kg to win BRONZE for snatch, clean and jerk and total at her first international competition!
And the number 1 spot in our 2018 Top Ten countdown goes to Marissa Gaab’s GOLD medal performance at the American Open Series II. Marissa had a spectacular 6/6 meet with a PR in the snatch at 83 kg and two PRs in the clean and jerk with 104 kg and 107 kg to finish with a PR total of 190 kg and GOLD in the clean and jerk and for total in the 63 kg class.
