Autumn Poems by James Finamore
Autumn Poems (秋の歌) is an aural interpretation of three waka from Ogura Hyakunin Isshu (小倉百人一首), a classical Japanese anthology of one hundred Japanese waka by one hundred poets. The focus of the music is to capture the essence of each poem, always posing a question for the listener to reflect on.

I. 秋風に On the Autumn Wind
Flown by autumn winds
Clouds hang trailing in the sky,
From whose rifts, in stealth,
There to shine forth peeps the moon,
In such brilliance cool and clear!
II. 奥山に In the Remote Mountains
Deep in the mountains
Parting through the crimson leaves
The cry of a deer
Itʹs then when I hear its call
Autumn is melancholy
III. 竜田姫 Princess Tatsuta
Even divine Gods,
Who reigned oʹer ancient realms,
Never heard or said:
ʺTatsuta dyes her waters in,
The hue of autumn red.ʺ
