By documenting what’s happening in communities confronting these threats, journalists have a special role in increasing our collective awareness and commitment to act. Based out of George Washington University, Planet Forward is one of the leading environmental initiatives of its kind teaching and rewarding effective environmental storytelling skills.
In this video, Environment Program director Moira Mcdonald and Planet Forward director Frank Sesno discuss the critical need for more high-quality, fact-based reporting on climate issues. They discuss how this initiative is lifting up the voices of those closest to the challenge – fishermen, farmers, ranchers, tribal communities – and breaking down the barriers that exclude voices and ideas for solutions.
