In cartography software like the open-source QGIS, we often use geodata coming from external sources such as official mapping organizations like Swisstopo in Switzerland. This data is delivered in the form of tiles that divide up the territory, so we often have to merge them to get the whole area we're interested in. This video shows you how to merge these documents in QGIS. These Raster GeoTIFFS files can be terrain level representations (called DTM for Digital Terrain Model or DSM for Digital Surface Model), as in the video : we can use them to extract contours for example. GeoTIFFS can also be orthophotos.
