Voice cloning raises many existential , ethical questions.
The only unique natural instrument we have as humans is the voice or hand clapping. Everything else use technology.Eg. Sticks & animal skins were utilised for drums & percussion. Reeds , bamboo and vegetation created wind instruments. New musical genres emerge as a result of new tools.
Co-opting someone voice without consent on your song does not advance the art form or create new genres.it's abuse saturates social media with trite gimmicky content & tropes created just for views.
Vocal appropriation resurrects the dead or controversial figures & reduces the voice to a one dimensional preset.It enables users to create infinite recordings & ignores other details. The source of the voice could have been mysterious ,introverted & private & their recordings , artistic output & scheduling could be intentionally scarce to prevent over exposure etc.
This video was created for the uninitiated and the creatives who are disconnected from the art form & culture.Your favourite Artist did not release content every single week so why should you co opt their voice & do so.
Voice appropriation tools are revolutionary but also a danger as they are normalizing unethical behavior.Creatives need to show some respect and restraint.Tech companies also need to be reminded that humans & our unique traits & cultures are more than data models & presets.
it's a quest to find a video on this platform without seeing someones exaggerated facial expressions or gestures on the thumbnail because You tube encourages narcissism. You tube is currently negotiating for voice models to be used which will cause additional controversy.
