Spooncarving: sourcing spoon blanks with hand tools in the forest
Sourcing some birch spoon blanks in the forest. Woodworking, bushcraft, slow living and maker movement!
One thing I really like about slöjd and traditional crafts is that you (mostly) get your material from your surroundings. This is a small forest very close to where I live. So why not go out and do some exercise/manual labor, sawing, axing and carrying logs and blanks around like there was no tomorrow.
I brought my Gränsfors Wildlife hatchet and Silky Katanaboy with me, to this spot in the sun.. Nice and warm!
I don't want to carry all the excess shavings home, so therefore I like to prep them in the forest. I can keep on coming back to this place and pick up the rest, for a few weeks.
Remember! Always ask for permission if you’re going to cut down trees.
