Hydrological Cycle | Irrigation Engineering | It is a natural system by which moisture keeps on circulating from ocean to atmosphere and again to ocean. Water from oceans enters atmosphere due to evaporation and forms clouds. The water carried by clouds again returns to ocean in form of precipitation of rainfall. Precipitation water again joins ocean by way of percolation through ground and by way of flow through rivers and streams. The part of water absorbed by the soil is used by the plants or vegetation, for their growth. Part of soaked water keeps on moving downwards under the influence of gravity and joins the ground water reservoir. The water from ground water reservoir is obtained in form of wells. Hence we see that different sources of water keep on replenishing each other by way of the elements of the hydrologic cycle i.e. precipitation, evaporation, stream flow and ground water conditions. The elements of the hydrological cycle should be measured accurately to assess the capability of water resources and its proportion which can be used for irrigation and other human requirements.
