Hi everyone, I made this video back at the end of February. I was feeling like the entire time I had been in Italy my photos weren't really good so I decided to try a slightly different exercise. I decided that I would stay out much later than I normally would. I decided to stay past the limit or the point where I would normally go home. I found it to be a really useful exercise, one that I plan on doing more often.
It was a great exercise not only because it taught me how to look for light at night as well as giving me more night photography experience but also because it allowed me to get to know myself better. I got to experience where my mind goes, how I think and how I observe the world in the process of shooting. The process of shooting from a place of intuition and observance is such a meditative process for me. On this day, i was able to answer a question that I've asked myself for years and couldn't previously answer... "why am I doing this?". There are several answers to this but the main one, the answer that drives me and that has changed my perspective is that I do it because "it's a calling". Documenting life and documenting history is important. It's a really crude and rudimentary type of time machine or time travel. It's documenting a small speck in time. A collection of moments. After all, isn't that what life is... a collection of moments?
Rather than trying to justify why I do street photography to myself in the future, now I'll just accept it as a calling. One that some people have and others don't, this just happens to be one of mine.
As far as the talking parts, unfortunately, I had to do the talking part in one take (that's been the case for the last three or four videos) and in this episode I screwed up the audio. I put the phone's mic way too close to my mouth because I was recording outside and I was hoping to drown out most of the ambient noise in the background but i ended up getting unwanted low frequencies while speaking. I hope you guys can bare with the noise.
In regards to the 27mm 2.8 and 18mm f2.... Both of these lenses are a ton of fun to use on the X-E4. The 27mm 2.8 has become my all time favorite autofocus lens so it was a huge bummer when I dropped it later that evening. I will bet another one at some point soon but the prices have gone up quite a bit since I first purchased the one I broke and I'm going to have to wait a little bit. It's funny cause since the 27mm stopped working, the X-E4 doesn't have the same appeal as it did before. I still use it a lot with the 18mm f2 and that's a lot of fun but for the most part when I want to shoot at that focal length, I just take the XF10 or the X70 with me.
Ok, I hope you're all doing well and thank you for all of your continued support. Take care and see you all in the next one!
