Answered here: What to do when your horse puts itself into a position that makes it impossible to do as you ask.

One of the most common issues new riders face happens when their horse moves against the fence or rail in such a way as to make it impossible for the rider to get the movements he or she was looking for in order to complete a simple exercise. All too often, then, what happens is that the rider will loose focus, forget all about the task at hand - and steer the horse back, away from the fence. Problem is, of course, when the rider picks up and drops the reins to "start all over," the horse gets mixed signals and confused. What to do? The answer is simple. (But you'll have to watch the video to find out.)

I TRAIN IN THIS ORDER WHEN STARTING A HORSE:

1) First, round pen work (See links below for video, book, & audio)
2) Next comes "Bridle work on the ground" (See "How to Start a Horse," https://amzn.to/30hilSn)
3) Finally: Basic training from the horse's back (See "What I'd Teach Your Horse," https://amzn.to/2Ryi844)
