Hand carved Bowl Inspired by Nightbirde
This video and the creation of the hand carved bowl that it contains were inspired by the 2021 @AmericasGotTalent audition of the singer Nightbirde (see the audition here: • Video ). Her story and her audition has touched and inspired many people around the world, and I am one of them. Her amazing audition received the coveted Golden Buzzer award from Simon Cowell. Like the judges, I was undone in those 11 minutes. In the hours after the audition I went looking to find out more about Nightbirde. I ran into a wonderful interview that was on YouTube with a channel called Teen Mental Love (see the interview here: • Jane Marczewski(NightBirde)’s Story- Cance... ).
Watching her video and learning more about Nightbirde (aka. Jane Marczewski) inspired me to carve the bowl in this video. The hand carved bowl in the video is made from basswood. It is in the shape of a bird. The interior of the bowl is black with a subtle hint of blue. It is so subtle that you almost can’t see it unless you are looking for it, and even then you can’t quite convince yourself if it I there or not. The ridges of the chip carving allow the blue of the first coats of paint to show through, in the same way, that the morning brakes through the night, with subtle gestures harkening is soon arrival. But again, it can be missed if you are not aware and are not looking.
The shape and the color of the bowl were inspired by the story Nightbirde tells about where her stage name comes from: I woke up three times in the middle of the night a few years ago with the same dream and it was a dream where I could see (like) a tree and the tree was full of birds and the birds were all chirping, chirping, chirping. But it was the middle of the night so the sunrise wasn’t any where near but the birds were singing as if it was morning already. I work up the third time of that dream and I actually heard real birds outside and I went to my window and looked and there they were singing, it was three in the morning and they were singing as if the sun was coming up. And I thought that was so profound, I wanted to be that way, I wanted to sing in celebration of the morning light even though there was no proof it was coming yet.
