The Violence against women and girls (VAWG) Strategy report (Tower Hamlets local authority website 2019) concludes that the 'Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a significant problem in Tower Hamlets. The Violence Indicator Profiles for England (VIPER) show that Tower Hamlets has the sixth highest number of recorded sexual offences in England and the third highest in London, ranking 322 out of 326. Approximately 97% of all known victims of interpersonal violence in Tower Hamlets are female - a significant gender bias towards women'.
As a response to the soaring violence against women and girls and following thorough research on the women's lives throughout the years, this proposal is to provide a safe space of support and understanding. The retreat should provide for various needs from advice, through well-being support to emergency accommodation. (2019)
