So if you're arrested for domestic violence charges in Florida, the victim on their own cannot dismiss those charges because once you are arrested, it becomes the state of Florida versus you and the decision moves into the hands of the prosecutor's office to determine whether to file charges and whether to continue pursuing charges or ultimately dismiss the case. So they’re things that you can do if you find yourself in that position to make the state more comfortable dropping the charges if the victim doesn't want to prosecute. The first thing is beginning batterers intervention program classes. These are classes offered through the state and sponsored by the state that educate you on domestic violence and what may lead up to domestic violence and address some of those issues that may be present. If alcohol or drugs were involved, you can also get an alcohol or substance abuse evaluation and take any of the treatment that they may recommend. And working through all of these conditions make the state and the judge more comfortable dismissing the charges if the victim doesn't want to prosecute because they all address issues that the state or the judge may see as contributing to situations like this.
