CAGED System Essentials - Octave Linkups
The CAGED System for guitar is essential learning, and here is a good way to get started (plus it helps you to learn the notes of the fretboard). Choose a note and find that note on whichever string it is closest to the headstock.
Then find each instance of the chosen note on each string, ascending the fretboard with the different octave shapes.
The string order will always be the same - 6-4-2-5-3-1-6-4-2...Your starting string will differ depending on which note you choose.
Try this exercise with 3 or 4 notes to each practice session and you're set to master the CAGED system.
