'베니스비엔날레 한국관 30년 다시/대신 읽기'는 2024년 4월 19일부터 9월 8일까지 이탈리아 베니스 몰타기사단 수도원에서 개최되는 베니스비엔날레 한국관 30주년 특별전시 《모든 섬은 산이다》의 이해를 돕기 위해 기획됐습니다.
뉴욕시립대학교(The City University of New York) 철학과 큐리 교수는 베니스 현지 큐레토리얼 학교(School for Curatorial Studies Venice)를 운영하는 오로라 폰다 박사와 함께 중세의 수도원을 배경으로 펼쳐지는 동시대 한국미술 전시를 관람하며, 베니스비엔날레 한국관을 중심으로 한 동시대 한국미술의 다양한 이야기를 ‘다시, 대신’ 읽어 줍니다.
총 3편으로 구성된 본 프로그램은 전시 소개와 아카이브를 둘러보는 1부, 참여 작가와 출품 작품을 소개하는 2부와 3부로 전개됩니다. 베니스비엔날레 한국관 미술 전시의 역대 참여 작가 36명의 작품을 감상하면서 한국관의 과거와 현재를 돌아보고, 섬이 바다 속에서 산처럼 연결되듯이 한국미술을 통해 개인과 집단, 예술과 역사, 지역과 세계가 어떻게 연결되는지 대화를 나눕니다.

Far and Near: 30 Years of the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale is a public program organized to help visitors understand the exhibition, Every Island is a Mountain: 30th Anniversary Exhibition Celebrating the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale, which has held from 19 April to 8 September 2024 at the Palazzo di Malta–Ordine di Malta in Venice, Italy.
Dr. Kyoo Lee*, Professor of Philosophy at The City University of New York, will offer a guided tour of the exhibition with Dr. Aurora Fonda*, Director of the School for Curatorial Studies Venice, to explain various stories of the Korean contemporary art centered by the history of the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale ‘far and near’
The program is divided into three parts. Part 1 provides a brief overview of the exhibition and archive room. Parts 2 and 3 introduce the artists and works featured in the exhibition.
Through the works of the 36 artists who participated in the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale, we can reflect on the past and present of the Korean Pavilion and discuss the meaning of Korean art.
