Failure to Launch: Borderlands
Over the years many movie studios have taken a crack at launching a film franchise based on a popular video game series. Although there have been some successes both commercially and critically, it seems like more often than not these attempts fail rather than succeed.
2024’s Borderlands is a classic example of one of these failed attempts.
In this video essay I explore the messy history behind the film, discuss the many reasons it failed, and offer up some of my personal thoughts on why it sucks.
