While none of us ever wants to think our home will be burglarized or lost in a fire, these things do happen. This is the perfect time to create a Home Inventory Video.
A few suggestions:
• Narrate as you go along, documenting an item’s features, history or value
• Be careful in avoiding doing a quick scan of an area. The slower the better. That means opening up every drawer, cabinet, and cupboard.
• If an item has a serial number, like a TV or computer, zoom in on it
• Include all appliances as they’re easy to overlook but represent high value items. These would include the furnace, air conditioner, hot water heater, and water softener
• Your garage is an area that not only contains your vehicles but also things like tools, camping gear or other expensive items like lawn mowers and snow blowers.
• Finally, don’t forget places like your attic, crawl space or storage unit for things you might have forgotten about.
Once you’re done filming and documenting, upload this video into cloud storage so it’s safe and sound.
