Here, I echo the thoughts and an essay by the late, very great George Sheehan who wrote similarly about why he ran. https://www.georgesheehan.com/ He quotes the philosopher Eric Hoffer that he ran "to stay in place", as part of maintenance. And in fact, exercise or any worldly activity that is honest, true is about maintenance and the joy of daily doing - not the trophies and finish lines and applause.
