DVD Menu - The War of the Worlds (Paramount) (1953)
This is one of the greatest science fiction films ever made. The special effects were considered so good that the film won an Oscar for best special effects. The director is also named in the opening track to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The acting isn't bad, but it's typical for the time period. And that scene where Gene Berry and Ann Robinson are stuck in the partially destroyed house and you see the alien emerge still holds up as being pretty creepy. And the best part is that it's rated G, so everyone can watch, regardless of age. Take that Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg!
