As it is tradition with PH3’s ports for Nihon Falcom games, Daybreak is not lacking many options in the Graphics department, it is in fact absolutely packed with stuff most of us couldn’t even dream of seeing in a modern PC release in 2024, such as Sparse Grid Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing.

This SGSSAA is a very demanding anti-aliasing technique, normally used in older DitectX 9 games, forced in those games via Nvidia Profile Inspector; it’s such an old school thing that I had to pause for a moment and realize how crazy mad men the folks at PH3 are, and how cool at the same time, of course.

With Daybreak still lacking proper Temporal Anti-Aliasing, this was the only possible way to offer those with high end enough GPUs, a way to improve the obvious aliasing in these types of games.
It’s still not perfect, but if your GPU has power to do 8x MSAA converted into SGSSAA, yeah you will most definitely get rid of a ton of aliasing.

On my system, the game is a bit more demanding, comparatively (similar settings as much as I could see) to Reverie, but I can still play at locked 60 FPS, 1440p DLDSR and with some MSAA and SGSSAA so…I can’t complain: it looks absolutely beautiful.

Also happy to say this game plays like a dream on Mouse and Keyboard, I normally play turn based JRPGs with my Controller (either DualSense or DualShock) but Daybreak here…yeah it runs super nicely on the standard PC control setup.

Not much else to say other than I’m grateful to being able to play yet another stellar PC port for a new game in my favorite JRPG franchise.
This port has almost every possible setting I could ask on a PC game, really, that’s how it is.

As usual, I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you in the next one : )
