Mathias Lessort recently suffered a fairly serious injury, after what had been a dream 2024 season up to that point. After a 2023 World Cup where he didn't get enough playing time, he returned with a vengeance, winning the Euroleague with Panathinaikos, a key player for the Greek team, and then following it up with an Olympic silver medal, where he played a pivotal role during the final stages.
His primary strength, and it always has been, is his defensive impact. Along with his incredible mobility, he also possesses an exceptional sense of timing for blocking shots and stealing the ball from guards. His energy is extraordinary. But in recent years, he has also developed additional offensive weapons.
He has always been an excellent target on rolls after screens. But he has recently added finesse to his finishing, with excellent footwork that allows him to be effective in the post. He also attacks the basket sparingly on the dribble, but only when necessary, and with no help.
And then he sees the game. He's a good passer, and he understands what's happening, even if he sometimes gets carried away by his energy and desire to do well. We wish him a speedy recovery, and we can't wait to see him back to pummel opposing defenses!
