This video showcases a girl in a wheelchair doing a social media remix. As the audio asks a question about marathons, she puts up a text bubble with her own question about a different topic, the text bubble reads “Not to sound like really stupid but aren't all wheelchair users paralyzed?” It then says "No! Spinal cord injury is not the only cause for a wheelchair. There are many different disabilities that may need a wheelchair that don't involve spinal cord injuries! It's part of what makes the disability community so diverse :)."

We’ve heard it before and we’ll hear it again, so let’s set the record straight- not all wheelchair users are paralyzed. There are various reasons why someone may use a wheelchair, and this applies to most disabilities as well. Think of it as a spectrum: not every disability presents in the same way, there are varying degrees to every condition, and not every accessibility or mobility tool is used for a single purpose.
