#2022# Conduction of heat ‪@seetolearn2266‬
#Transferofheat without actual movement of particles is called #conduction.
#Activity to learn conduction of heat.
#Take a spoon or a stainless steel scale.
Fix some paper clips or nails using wax. Support the other end of the scale using a glass.
#Heat the free end of the scale using a lighted #candle. The clips one after the other.
This shows that #heat is transferred from the #hot end to the #colder end.
The tiny particles in the object called #atoms transfer heat. In #solids the particles are close to each other, they cannot move but can #vibrate at their mean position.
The particles at the end of the scale that comes in contact with heat gain #energy and vibrate faster.
As a result they #coliide with the neighboring particles and #transfer some amount of heat to them. Due to which they too start vibrating fast.
This continues till the heat reaches the colder end and the entire object becomes #hot.
Such transfer of heat without actual movement of particles is called #conduction of heat.
The #materials which #conduct heat are called #thermal #conductors while those which do not are called #insulators.
#Metals and their #alloys are good conductors while #wood, #bakelite etc. are #insulators.
So #cooking utensils are made of conductors while their #handles are made of insulators.
