Retirement is defined as stepping out of your main career path or method of earning money to pursue something else (a better industry, another job, starting a business, golfing, traveling, fitness focus, family, teaching, coaching, etc). The actual implementation of retirement is totally up to the individual.
Retirement, as it relates to finances, is defined as being able to support your typical expenses without HAVING to work for it directly. What does that mean? Well, anyone can retire whenever they hit this mile marker. It doesn't matter if you are 59 and 1/2, 65, 67, 25, 30, 40, or 50. It really has nothing to do with age.
What that means for you and me is that we need to get to that number prior to deciding to retire.
