ABI OOZE - R.I.P. EP + Bonus Tracks
Just taking a moment to upload a fresh tape rip, like the (not-so) good ol' days. I wouldn't be going through all this trouble if I didn't think an album was worth the technical headaches, and... well, this one certainly is. Abi Ooze's "R.I.P." EP is my favorite punk release of 2021. Full stop. I know there's still another month left for a potentially better album to drop, but considering the monopoly this album has had on my mind over the past while, I'm not really counting on it. Abi Ooze is a treasure, and no punk rocker should be caught sleeping on this latest release.
This tape was released last September via Ketchup and Mustard Industries (https://ketchupandmustardindustries.b...), with a vinyl release on Aklasan Records (https://aklasanrecords.bigcartel.com) being soon to follow, if that's more your thing. The first side of this tape contains the EP itself, recorded in early 2021 by "Dumpy Tapioca Man" -- an alias for Mat Williams, I'm assuming. Mr. Tapioca Man (Esq.) also banged on the drums for that half of the release. Every other bit of instrumentation and songwriting is the work of Abi Ooze alone. The B-side of this tape contains what I surmise to be the demo recordings for the songs featured on this EP, using the mechanical drumbeats one would expect from Abi's previous efforts. I'm equally in awe of the second portion of this tape as I was the first. The natural talent for songwriting at display here will shine no matter who's responsible for recording them.
