WARM RED - the way felt feels
This is Warm Red from Atlanta. I don't know anything about this band, nor any of the particulars behind the group's debut album. This six-track EP was released in early 2019, with a limited 7" single succeeding it later that year (https://chunklet.bandcamp.com/album/b.... Despite that, Warm Red has managed to slip completely under my radar up until a few weeks ago, in which my initial response to the group's musical efforts could be summarized as the following: "who are these people, how in the hell has their band not blown up big time?" Well, whatever recognition this band has received for their work thus far, it's not enough. "The Way Felt Feels" is an incredible listening experience, in which the instrumentation trickles, gushes, and spouts with an explosive no-wave spontaneity. Imbrued with stylistically-stilted time signatures, the shambolic melodies scramble to the rhythm of a spasmodic drumbeat with a noxious fervency, the showy vocal performances scattering its pitch and intensity in an unstable temperamental typhoon, the discordant songwriting manifesting into deranged instrumental dynamics that never fail to satisfy -- or rather, stupefy. These songs tickle my synapses in a way I can hardly describe.
I don't know much, but I do know that this is a brilliant album. "Dottie" is such a spectacular track. Looking forward to seeing what comes of this band, if anything.
