Algebra V5 Terms Used in Fundamental Operation
TERMS USED IN FUNDAMENTAL OPERATIONS
A. ADDITION
In 5 + 4 = 9,
5 is called AUGEND
AUGEND is the number in which the ADDEND is added.
4 is called ADDEND
ADDEND is the number in which added to another also called Summand.
9 is called SUM
SUM is the result of Adding AUGEND and ADDEND. Also the sum of two or more Addends or Summands.
B. SUBTRACTION
In 10 – 6 = 4,
10 is called MINUEND
MINUEND is a number from which another number is to be subtracted.
6 is called SUBTRAHEND
SUBTRAHEND is the number to be subtracted from another.
4 is called DIFFERENCE
DIFFERENCE is the result of subtraction.
C. MULTIPLICATION
In 7 x 3 = 21,
7 is called MULTIPLICAND
MULTIPLICAND is a quantity that is to be multiplied.
3 is called MULTIPLIER
MULTIPLIER is the number that you are multiplying by in which It increases the original number.
21 is called PRODUCT
PRODUCT is the result of multiplication.
D. DIVISION
In 12 / 6 = 2,
12 is called DIVIDEND
DIVIDEND is the quantity that is to be divided.
6 is called DIVISOR
DIVISOR is the number that divides the other number into equal parts which decreases the original number.
2 is called QUOTIENT
QUOTIENT is the result of division.
