Seems as though the fire ant population has grown exponentially in the last five years. Some of us who have never noticed these tenacious little creatures have been given a rude awakening after stepping on a mound accidentally. These reddish brown subterranean spark plugs don’t hesitate to defend the queen and their home. Their descriptive color surprisingly is not why they are name so, that comes from the burning sensation that occurs after being bitten and stung simultaneously. Many products have been made specifically to rid your lawn of these pest but what if you don’t have any on hand? I’ve found that good old fashioned bug spray can work also. Just use the simple process in this video to get rid of Fire ants when you don’t have a fire ant pesticide on hand. I believe any pest killer will work.
