This is a slideshow set to my own fan-mix edit of The Beach Boys' song 'Vega-Tables', recorded for inclusion on the legendarily uncompleted 'Smile' album. A second version of the song, simply titled 'Vegetables' appeared on the 1967 'Smiley Smile' album which marked the song's first public release. The version titled 'Vega-Tables' that I used for this video is my own edit of the earlier 'Smile' version, and not the 'Smiley Smile' version. Sections of the 'Smile' recordings were not made available to the public until 1993's 'Good Vibrations' box set. Written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, the song was conceived by Wilson as a tongue-in-cheek promotion of organic food. It is, perhaps, the most whimsical of all the 'Smile' material recorded, and the song most indicative of the humor theme that was planned as a major component of 'Smile'' during it's creation. At one point being considered by Wilson for 'Smile's lead-off single, it was recorded in 1967 and was one of the last songs recorded for the project before it was scrapped. Thanks to brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston for this 'Smile' music that continues to intrigue and entertain fans over 50 years later.
