The Redbay Ambrosia Beetle (Xyleborus glabratus) is one of the most devastating invasive species in the southeastern United States. Laurel Wilt, the disease transmitted by the beetles, has eliminated mature redbays from the region.

We brought several logs colonized by this ambrosia beetle to rear in the Forest Entomology Lab (School of Forest Resources and Conservation at the University of Florida). Here we are extracting live beetles and larvae, while taking many pictures of these tiny insects in the process.
