🔵 Missing is a single by the British duo Everything but the Girl, released on 8 August 1994 as the first single from their eighth studio album Amplified Heart.
The song, initially launched to revitalize the duo's career, became Everything but the Girl's most successful and certainly best-known single, mainly thanks to Todd Terry's 1995 remix.
Before Missing, Everything but the Girl was recognized primarily as a folk and jazz band. The group had released eight albums before Amplified Heart and one of their singles had reached number three on the Official Singles Chart in 1988 (I Don't Want to Talk About It), but they were relatively unknown in the rest of the world. Missing was originally recorded as a pop, vocals and guitar ballad, but received little radio play.
The duo then entrusted the song to house music producer Todd Terry to remix it. The result was a dance version of Missing, which became a hit around the world, allowing Everything but the Girl to reach the top of the charts in numerous countries. The duo entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, and although it peaked at number two, the single remained on the charts for 55 weeks, a record still unbeaten at the time.
