What's a Cataloger Like You Doing at a Service Desk Like This? How my Music Cataloging Job Combined with Publich Service Desk Duties and Student Supervision

As a Music Catalog/Metadata Librarian in the Music Library and Bill Schurk Sound Archives at Bowling Green State University for the past 30 years, my duties have mainly focused on technical services duties with some public service desk duties and minimal student supervision. During the past 3 years, it was decided that I would take on the supervision of student workers at our public service desk due to staffing changes. This made the most sense at the time as I had always been the back-up for the previous student supervisors for things like payroll, scheduling, etc. In this presentation, I’ll discuss the pros and cons involved with doing technical and public service duties as a faculty librarian and how I’ve been able to create opportunities for cataloging related projects with our student employees.
