The Music Companion to the Framework for Information Literacy, approved by the MLA in October 2023, has utility beyond information literacy instruction. This interactive workshop will help participants realize our common goals and values in music library practice to support music inquiry, preservation, and discovery by engaging with the Framework and Music Companion. Collectively, we will investigate, explore, and uncover the application of these documents to music cataloging and metadata. After a brief introduction highlighting relevant content and core principles, participants will work in small groups to respond to a set of prompts on how the Framework and Companion intersect with their work. Groups will come back together to share with the larger group. The Music Companion, and information literacy more broadly, provides a foundation for all of our work as music information professionals and as people who enjoy music.
