Last original member of Lynyryd Skynyrd has died - My tribute to Gary Rossington RIP! (That smell)
So many guitarists have died in 2023 already. First Jeff Beck, then Tom Verlaine, then David Lindley, and a day later, Gary Rossington. I can't keep up with the tributes anymore. Sadly, this trend is only going to accelerate as all these guys hit their 70's, 80's. Just reminds me how little time we have on this planet, and how much more playing there is for me to do!
Here's a Skynyrd jam I did on the street in 2022, July 1. Gary was the last original member of the classic 70's lineup. Rick Medlocke remains the only surviving musician that was briefly in Skynyrd as a drummer in 1972 before he left to form Blackfoot.
