Heeeeyyyy!!! Yeah, I'm (sort of) back. Sorry for the abrupt and unannounced departure. Life.

So yeah, this is Firefly. A friend recommended the series ages ago, and I just got round to watching it a week or so ago, and oh my god, it's amazing! I don't want to go on a big advertisement rant but... oh screw it, of course I do. (Feel free to skip the next paragraph...)

Firefly is a TV series made by Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Dollhouse -- but don't let that put you off! In this show Joss uses his trademark wit and imagination that made Buffy great, to tell interesting, deep, adult stories. No vampires, no demons, and no awful prosthetics. The characters are entrancing, believable, interesting, colourful and lovable, and the first season barely scratches the surface of Firefly's potential. (It was cancelled after one season -- the ultimate proof that all great TV shows are.) The premise of the show is a space western -- it's 500 years in the future, and our cast of characters crew a space ship called Serenity, and are faced with problems like finding jobs, staying out of the way of the Alliance (the evil government) and trying to get by. River, the character shown in this video, throws their lives into one adventure after the other. It's a fascinating show. Every single character is interesting and believable, the actors are flawless. This has quickly become one of my favourite shows ever. After the show got cancelled, Joss Whedon eventually got the rights to a spin off movie which allowed him to finish off the story. The film is called 'Serenity'. It's an amazing movie, and both it and the TV series have been highly acclaimed by critics. Most of the footage in the video comes from the movie. I've made it sound really strange, but it really is brilliantly written. I highly recommend watching the series and the movie.

But yeah, sorry about that, just had to get that out of my system. One of the most tragic studio axes ever, in my opinion. It had so much potential. But anyway...

This is actually one of my favourite videos that I've made. It was so fun to edit, and I didn't have to mess around with masking or anything to make it look interesting. And the song was so characteristic that I knew exactly what to put where, for once. It was fun. And, seeing as it's been ages since I've done a video that hasn't been for a contest or a deadline, I actually had time to neaten this one up, and didn't rush it, and I am, for once, happy with the way it came out. Shock, horror.

Oh, and watch the second loud bit carefully. Intertwining those scenes took forever, but I'm really proud of it. River fights like a dance.

The music is "Plugged In" by Evermore, the first song of an amazing album, called Truth of the World, which is all about how the media is getting out of control. But there I go again, advertising... I'll shut up. It is good though. The guy speaking in the song is the voice of the Alliance. It fits perfectly. They're trying to create a perfect world, but there are more than a few skeletons in their closet...

All I can say is... I aim to misbehave. ;P

Random Firefly quotes to whet your appetite:

Mal: "If anyone gets nosy, just...you know... shoot 'em."
Zoe: "Shoot 'em?"
Mal: "Politely."

Mal: "Jayne, your mouth is talking. You might wanna look to that."

Wash: "Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction."
Zoe: "We live in a spaceship, dear."

Mal to Jayne: "Well, my time of not taking you seriously is coming to a middle."

Mal: "I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you."

Jayne: "You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with until you understand who's in ruttin charge here."

Mal: "Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back!"

Wash: "I've been under fire before. Well ... I've been in a fire. Actually, I was fired. I can handle myself."

Wash: "How did your brain even learn human speech?"

[When trying to control a crashing ship]
Mal: "Just get us on the ground!"
Wash: "That part will happen pretty definitely!"

Mal: "Next time you want to stab me in the back, have the guts to do it to my face."

Wash: "I am a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar."

Mal: "Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?"
Zoe: "Big damn heroes, sir!"
Mal: "Ain't we just?"

Jayne: "He looked bigger when I couldn't see him."

Mal: [on the intercom] "This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then - explode."

Mr Universe: "There is no news. There is only the truth of the signal. What I see. And, there's the puppet theater the Parliament jesters foist on the somnambulant public."
