/ vinyltovideo   Richard Crooks sings James G. Macdermid's "Charity" which is based on the poem "If I Can Stop One Heart From Breaking" by Emily Dickinson. This seems to be one of seven cuts Crooks made of the song on February 10, 1925, with all the others being destroyed. It's hard to say though as this session was supposed to have had a piano; perhaps it's a later recording that was to be destroyed but someone salvaged it. Thank God it was saved! Being so early it is obviously a late acoustic recording and it's interesting to compare with Crooks' later electric recordings. He also did several cuts of the song two months later on April 8, 1925 (possibly electric? - again all cuts were supposedly destroyed!). Rosario Bourdon conducts while Alexander Schmidt plays the violin. Supposedly the pianist is Bruno Reibold, though I don't hear a piano.
