Russia UNLEASHES Huge DESTROYER As US SEIZES Tanker? | Putin Warns Trump?
Open-source trackers say a Russian warship appears to be escorting two sanctioned cargo vessels near NATO's southern maritime flank. The warship, identified as the Severomorsk—a Udaloy-class anti-submarine warfare destroyer from Russia's Northern Fleet—was observed south of Portugal on January 9th alongside the cargo vessels Sparta IV and MYS Zhelaniya, according to ship-tracking data. AIS shows Egypt as the declared destination, but OSINT analysts say past voyages suggest the ships could continue elsewhere—Sparta IV has previously shown routes continuing toward Russia's naval base in Tartus, Syria, according to tracking records. Sanctions listings and analysts link Sparta IV to firms tied to Russia's military logistics ecosystem. MYS Zhelaniya is connected to sanctioned firms supporting Arctic energy projects, according to reports. The escort comes soon after U.S. officials say the Russian-flagged oil tanker Marinera was seized under a U.S. court warrant in the North Atlantic. Russia's Foreign Ministry condemned the operation as a "blatant violation" of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. U.S. European Command said the tanker was tracked by USCGC Munro before the seizure. Reuters reported a Russian submarine and warship were operating nearby during the operation. U.S. forces also seized the Panama-flagged supertanker M/T Sophia carrying approximately 1.8 million barrels of Venezuelan crude destined for China. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated "the blockade of sanctioned and illicit Venezuelan oil remains in full effect anywhere in the world." Some analysts interpret the Russian escort as a signal and deterrent, but Moscow hasn't publicly explained the purpose.#Russia #USNavy #NorthAtlantic #Marinera #ShadowFleet #NavalEscort #NATO #Tartus #Syria #Severomorsk #Putin #Trump #Hegseth #Sanctions #OilTanker #MaritimeLaw #UNCLOS #RussianNavy #Geopolitics #Venezuela #SpartaIV #GlobalSouth #BreakingNews #WorldNews #MilitaryNews
