A forensic reconstruction of a SILENT colour 16mm cine film and a derivative but badly degraded BVU (Umatic) transfer (dub) from which only the frank corporate admissions of fatal fire causation can be clearly heard.

Update 11th January 2025: (the technical fine print!) Tthe BVU tape's analogue video signal was so weak that the replaying machine "squelched" the noisy signal completely, unable to reliably lock on to the vert and horizontal sync markers. Signal degradation was probably due to a poor choice of tape tech: it was specified on the cassette casing as mechanically durable for repeated playing or frame-by-frame searching, but its resilient surface may have been the worst possible choice for long-term archiving. In 2011, my video transfer guy at "Film Plus" in Windsor, 3181.au was very lucky to get the audio, as it would normally be suppressed too, when the video sync signal is this weak.
