In this #Shorts video, DIYNate shows his abbreviated version of removing a watch link from his metal Fossil watch band / watch strap using a thumbtack / push pin and a pair of needle nose pliers. He also tested this method on two other watches and it worked very easily. Note, some watch brands (high-end, etc. may not work quite the same way and may require a screwdriver or more jeweler tools / expertise).
The thumbtack works great because the pointed tip fits in the pin hole nicely and the flat head of the thumb tack and be used to flatten the pin back in when putting the link back together.
The thumbtack is inserted into the pin hole (warning & disclaimer - be careful not to stab yourself, push pins / thumbtacks are sharp and DIYNate assumes no liability). Once the pin releases, a pair of needle nose pliers can be used to pull the pin out the rest of the way. Not shown in the video, but a second pin will likely need to be pulled out to tighten the band. Then, the watch is put back together and the back side of the push pin / thumb tack is used to flatten the head of the pin into the watch. The watch then fits much better than before.
DIYNate also tested this method with two of his other watches. The watch shown in the video was a Fossil Q smart watch. He also tested with a standard Citizen watch and a generic watch. He had success with all three watches and this method proved to be a fast and easy way to do it with really no special tools needed (a pair of pliers is helpful for pulling the pin out the remainder of the way, but could be done with other methods of pushing or pulling the pin out).
