I've been teaching myself the guitar/bass guitar for the last 18 months - courtesy of the MANY wonderful YouTube players who share their wisdom and creativity.
After many iterations with guitar, bass, fretless, etc I've found my sweet spot with an Ibanez SR306EB 6-string Bass... BUT I've strung it with piccolo strings and what is likely to be called out as blasphemous tuning - starting at the lowest string F#, B, E, A, G - the open G is G3, just below middle c on the piano. As a piano player, I have found this tuning very familiar in my ear and the tension of the strings suits my preference (and yes, I tried the high c tuning but found that it made everything too stiff....)
In any case - I had a small breakthrough after taking most of the week off from playing due to work deadlines and when I fired everything up this morning some things just clicked.
I'm running the guitar through an iRig into Bitwig Studio where I have GuitarRig setup with the jazz amp, some reverb and a little compression.
In any case - give it a listen. Thanks.
