"Ye Olde Pub " Boeing B-17 F part 2 THE BUILD REVELL 1:72
This build was comissioned by my dear friends Nikos and Ted at "Ted Coningsby " You Tube channel , to illustrate a story of great Chivalry and compassion . (to be Streamed CHRISTMAS DAY !) You can see the smashed nose,the blackened and burned no.2 engine , the huge hole caused by 88mm aa. through the starboard wing , Charlie and Pinkie are looking out of the window at Franz's Messerschmitt , just before Charlie orders Frenchie to " go up and point your guns at him !! " The radio room is a mess, the guns have long since frozen up , the guys are wounded , trying to look after one another, the port stabiliser mostly shot away ............and in the tail gun , Eckie , he is in there , unfortunately dead , the only casualty . Franz said " I have never seen a plane so badly damaged and still flying , I could not fire on these men !" He escorted them to the coast so that they would be safe , in an act of compassion that could have seen him court Martialled............................
It has been emotional , I have researched as best I can , it is a pretty safe bet that no one knows exactly what the damage to the aircraft was , no photos , but several paintings and 2 or 3 excellent models . my interpretation is based on these . "The Pub " was eventually repaired and flown back to the States , Charlie and Franz found each other after the war and became lifelong friends .
