Since it’s formalization as an act in 2005 Right to Information has been a crucial tool for the enforcement of government policies and gives individuals the power to petition and keep a check on the government at all levels. Padmanava details the current status of RTI as a tool in India. Using three Asha project partners, Asha Rajatalab, Asha Kanpur and Mukti, he highlights the role of RTI as a resource for project partners, the challenges involved in effectively using RTI and the key points that project stewards need to keep in mind when evaluating project proposal to make sure that adequate government schemes are identified and utilized using RTI.
