Legionnaires Forever - 2022

Legionnaires Forever, directed by Damien Muratel, immerses us in the world of the French Foreign Legion. From their arrival at the Aubagne recruitment center to their assignment to their respective regiments, we follow the extraordinary journeys of three candidates: a Nepalese man, a Frenchman, and an American.

Gangai is a young Nepalese man who decided to join the Legion for economic reasons, but also out of a desire for social advancement. For this native of the Himalayas, the change is radical; having never seen the sea before arriving in La Ciotat, he finds himself forced to learn a new language and adapt to a new culture. The first two phrases he will learn are "Yes, Corporal" and "No, Corporal," yet behind his shy gaze lies unwavering determination.

Romain, for his part, is a young Frenchman from a military family, determined to succeed and wear the kepi, the symbol of the Legion. What is he looking for? Brotherhood, discipline, and above all, an opportunity to prove himself.

Alongside them, an American, Mark, is more hesitant and less comfortable with the idea of wearing fatigues, but like many candidates, it's a second chance that life is offering him. For many of them, it means leaving their families and friends to enlist thousands of kilometers from home, a testament to the international renown of the French Foreign Legion. France is the only country to possess such a military corps. Stripped bare, both literally and figuratively, these men start from scratch, learning a new language and new customs, without distinction of nationality or religion. From the moment they arrive at the recruitment center in Aubagne, they are thrown into the deep end for weeks until the most courageous receive their white kepi, the symbol of the legionnaire. Follow the journey of these three recruits from the South of France to the Ivory Coast, where camaraderie and mutual support reign, all united by a single goal: the hope of a new life.
